Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club registered an emphatic 5-0 win over Varca Sports Club to enter the quarter-finals of the All-Goa Rising Cup 2018 inter-village football tournament organized by Santa Cruz Club of Poitomaddo in association with Rising Club of Sanvorcoto at Government School ground, Cuncolim on Thursday.
Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club led 2-0 at half time. The highlight of the day were a brilliant brace by Ashlon Olveira and Alviton Silva respectively.
Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club’s attack line pressurized the Varca defence from the outset. As early as in the first minute, Sao Jose de Areal SC forged ahead when Ashlon Olveira slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snapshot off an assist from Alviton Silva. In the 28th minute, Alviton Silva cleverly poked the ball home off a pass from Hayston to double the lead.
At the other end, Varca Sports Club could not claw their way back into the game and were restricted to their own half. Sao Jose de areal SC went into the breather 2-0 ahead.
Changing over, there was no respite for Varca SC. Ashlon Olveira picked up the ball from his own half and unleashed a stiff shot which crashed into the nets which beat the Varca Sports Club goalkeeper Mohammed Shaikh hands down. On the 67th minute, Alviton Silva and Ashlon Olviera combined for Sao Jose de Areal’s fourth goal as the latter Alviton Silva registered his brace. Bersel Viegas, who was in the thick of action, unleashed a stiff shot that entered the nylons for a thumping 5-0 scoreline in Sao Jose de Areal’s favour.
Jeston Fernandes who played a pivotal role for Sao Jose de Areal SC was adjudged man of the match.
Sao Jose de Areal SC will face CRC, Chinchinim in the
quarter-finals on September 5.
