Fire in your belly

Overlooking hunger and skipping breakfast, lunch and dinner while we study for exams, is not the most wise thing to do.

There is no denying that exams are stressful times for students. Our life hangs upon the results of these things, and we dedicate ourselves completely to studies when exams approach, often skipping breakfast, lunch or dinner, and forgetting to have a quick sip of water to keep ourselves hydrated. You could get a little more done in the half an hour that you would have spent having lunch. It’s okay if you skip food for just a day right? But sometimes you also do it on the second day, and the third, and it goes on at least for a week.

Sorry to disappoint you there, but perhaps you are not setting your priorities right.  Having breakfast, lunch and dinner in time every day goes a long way in ensuring a long and healthy life.  Agreed, it could be a little difficult, but establish a routine and stick to it. If you lead a disciplined life, you do not have to worry about regular meals or diet plans. You will sleep on time, eat on time, work on time and rest on time because your body has the ability to adjust itself according to a disciplined schedule.

When you are young, you feel that you can get away with pushing your body hard, starving, pulling off all-nighters, but the fact is that your behaviour during the youth can affect you as you age. This is especially true of acidity which if developed in youth, can become a lifelong burden. People who suffer from gastric issues and acidity are the worst hit when they have their dinner late at night. This is because their stomachs do not get the time to digest the food properly. There is no doctor or dietician in the world who would suggest you to go to sleep immediately after having dinner. The ideal time gap between having your dinner and sleeping is 2–3 hours. This is why it’s best to have dinner at a designated time of the night — your stomach gets time to digest your food and you don’t have to wake up in the middle of the night feeling uncomfortable due to your acidity or gastric problems. Constantly skipping food timings combined with exam stress can trigger acidity, and  the best way to nip this problem in the bud is to have food at regular time.
