St Savio’s Sports Club registered a fluent 3-0 win against Nerul Sports Club to advance into the semi-finals of Late Anthony & Santana Carvalho Memorial Soccer Cup organised by St Savio’s SC Calangute, played at Poriat grounds here on Tuesday.
The Calangute colts started earnestly and in the 3rd minute, Carl D’Souza’s 25-yard shot was saved by rival goalkeeper Dnyaneshwar Madgaonkar. However in the 8th minute, Calangute took the lead through Domnic Fernandes’ 22-yard direct
free kick.
Calangute would have extended their lead in the 30th minute, where Domnic Fernandes’ curling shot was well saved by rival goalkeeper. In the 32nd minute, Calangute doubled their lead through Runaal Shirodkar, 2-0
On crossing ends, in the 69th minute Calangute increased their lead through Domnic Fernandes who scored with a clinical finish, 3-0. Nerul Sports Club tried hard lot to come back into the game but their forwards lacked the finishing touch.
On Monday, St Anthony’s SC registered a comfortable 2-0 win over Goan Warriors FC to also advance ahead.
In the very 6th minute, St Anthony SC took the lead through Vasudev Agarwadekar who scored with a deft placement off a Sangam Pednekar cross, 1-0. St Anthony’s almost doubled the lead in the 32 minute when Dalesh Pednekar’s 28-yard powerful shot was kept away by rival goalkeeper Sanij Budge. Post resumption, in the 63rd minute, St Anthony colts doubled the lead through Dalesh Pednekar, who converted off a Sangam Pednekar cross.
The next match of the tournament is on August 16 between Navelim Sporting Club and Anjuna Gymkhana at Poriat Football Ground.
