A Zumba Master Class with Joe Yo is organised in collaboration with ‘STARS’ (Spending Time And Reaping Smiles), an NGO in Goa that focusses on visiting old age homes and children’s homes every month to create an essence of love and belonging.

“Participated by popular ZIN (Zumba instructors) from Goa, this Zumba Master Class is for 100 per cent charity for a cause. The cause for this event is financial assistance to students from poor financial backgrounds to pursue their studies in specialised fiends and to special children providing them with the appropriate treatment required to live a more independent life,” states Lushan Fernandes, founder member at STARS.

ZIN Joewel, ZIN Princy, ZIN Sid, ZIN Lunell, ZIN Darryl, ZIN Sheryl, ZIN Cecille, ZIN Jonathan, ZIN Vrinda, ZIN Raul and ZIN Genny are participating in the event to be held on August 14 at Don Bosco Oratory in Panaji. The registration will begin at 5.30 pm while the master class starts at 6.15 pm and will go on until 8 pm.

“We believe in importance of bridging the gap between organisations and professionals who yearn to make a difference and ameliorate the lives of the underprivileged in our society,” says Lushan. The NGO identifies various segments of society like single mothers struggling to make ends meet, underprivileged children needing education, needing to improve their talents, channelizing their energy by providing them with assistance they require to achieve their goals to secure their future through STARS’ helping hands project.

“We give them hope for a brighter future,” smiles Lushan who has been actively volunteering since the inception of STARS in 2013, five years from now. STARS is an NGO with a difference as we work on need basis and collaborate with professionals and organisations, as we strongly believe that when we work together we can make a big difference and bring about the positive change to people’s lives,” she quips.

STARS organise special events throughout the year for the homes their volunteers visit and for the underprivileged members of the society. The 2016-17 events conducted at STARS were anniversary celebration, picnic for two aged homes’ inmates as well as one distressed women home, children’s day celebration for mentally challenged children, Christmas and gifting party for underprivileged children, movie organised for seven children’s homes for mentally challenged and underprivileged children in and around Panaji.

“We are different,” claims Lushan, adding, “We focus on helping and making a different and don’t mind whether the help is channelized through us or directly to the people needing it. We donate time, values and quality to the ones we visit of help. All in STARS are volunteers.”
