Host team Saligao United made short work of Vagator PYSC 5-1 to enter the quarter-finals of the Mc Dowell’s No 1 Yarri Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Saligao United at Duler Stadium on Sunday.
Saligao United broke the deadlock in the 16th minute through Shadab Shaikh’s snap shot. Three minutes later, Shadab Shaikh doubled the lead with neat finish. In the 21st minute, a cool and composed Craig Menezes stamped his class with a final goal to make it 3-0 in favour of Saligao United.
Post resumption, Craig Menezes registered his brace in the 38th minute to make it 4-0.
Vagator PYSC United regrouped quickly and succeeded in reducing the margin through the boots of Renny Dias in the 55th minute. In the dying minutes, Siddesh Keshkar registered his name of the score-sheeet to make it 5-1.
Parish Youth Nuvem march ahead
Parish Youth, Nuvem came from behind to defeat Navelim Sporting Club 7-6 via tiebreaker to enter the quarter-finals of the South Goa Mc Dowell’s No 1 Yarri Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Cuncolim Union at Government School Play Ground, Cuncolim on Sunday.
Both the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of regulation period . For Navelim SC, Clinton Niasso and Fr Americo Rodrigues registered their names of the score sheet while for Parish Nuvem, Nicolau Colaco and Inacio Colaco were on target.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Shawn Rodrigues, Schubert Colaco, Agnelo Cardozo, Inacio Colaco and Myron Pereira were on target for Parish Youth Nuvem, while Brandon Gomes, Jaison Martins, Aniston Colaco and Clinton Niasso found the mark for Navelim Sporting Club.
