Sai Avtar lift St Anne’s Festival trophy

Sai Avtar lifted the 30th 

All-Goa St Anne’s Festival inter-village football tournament organized by Ponda Footballers in association with Dr Ketan Bhatikar’s SPARC played at Animal Husbandry Ground Curti, Ponda on Sunday.

defeated South Goa lion, Rossmann Cruz, Verna 4-2 via penalties after the match 

ended in a goalless draw.

Korgaonkar, who was declared player of the tournament, was brilliant in the shoot-out.   

Goal-mouth action came as early as in the fourth minute, when Saprem released a through ball to Pawan who shot straight into the hands of the Verna keeper. 

In the ninth minute, Pawan dogged two defenders and with only the keeper to beat but he shot out. In the 15th minute, Samuel from the flanks chipped to Pawan whose header missed the crossbar. 

In the 23rd minute, Verna attacked through Eusebio who released a diagonal pass to Razor, but his shot was saved by the Anjuna keeper.   

In the second half, Verna came strongly into the match. In the 37th minute, Myron released a well- measured pass to Savio but he shot straight into the keeper’s hands. In the 43rd minute, Razor seeing the keeper out of position, chipped but the ball hit the upper side of the crossbar. 

Anjuna nearly scored in the 49th minute when Nitesh fed the ball to Samuel and he in return released a first time shot which beat the diving keeper with the ball agonizingly near the goalpost. 

In the 58th minute, Verna attacked through Beneston who from the left flank chipped and Jesloy header missed the crossbar.   

In the ensuing tie-breaker, Rohan Kambli, Nitesh Salgaocar, Dinesh Mokajkar and Aniket Dabolkar scored for Anjuna while Viyal Rego and Hilton Fernandes scored for Verna.   

Anjuna Keeper Soma Korgaonkar was declared best player of the tournament and Vijal Rego of Verna best defender of the finals.   

In the exhibition match, Models, Panaji beat Goa Velha SC 3-1. Dona Fernandes scored for Panaji-based side in the first half. Valanka Souza 

increased the lead to make it 2-0 and Linda Dourado scored the third goal. Alosha Tavares reduced the margin for 

Goa Velha.   

Every year Ponda Footballers felicitates an upcoming footballer from Ponda and this year they felicitated Disha Kuma, a St Mary’s student who represented Team India as a goalkeeper. 

St Anne’s Parish Priest Fr Tony D’Souza felicitated her with a cash prize and certificate. The other dignitaries present were Deepak Pauskar, MLA of Savordem constituency; Abhay Prabhu, Fr Baltazar Pinto;
