CURCHOREM

A 55-year-old woman was found murdered in her house near Cine Prashant at Curchorem on Friday night.

Curchorem Police said Succorina Fernandes Travasso was found dead with her throat slit and believe the incident took place sometime before 10 pm.

According to reports, Succorina and her daughter Valisa lived in the house. Succorina’s husband, a coffin maker, had died some years earlier.

Valisa was employed at a private firm in Curchorem and when she returned home at 10 pm, found the nude body of her mother in a pool of blood.

She then alerted her maternal aunt Milagres, who notified Curchorem Police.

Police said cash of Rs 3 lakh was in the house and ruled out robbery as a motive for the crime.

It is learnt that Succorina had engaged a person to cut overgrown bushes in her courtyard and he had not come to work on Friday. Police are now on the lookout for him.

This is the second murder in Curchorem in recent times, after Shobha Karmali was found murdered in broad daylight.

South Goa SP Arvind Gawas visited the crime scene on Saturday and took stock of police investigations underway under the supervision of Curchorem PI Ravindra Dessai.
