CANACONA

Nine of the 10 councilors of Canacona Municipal Council have threatened to stage a dharna if no action is initiated against the Market Inspector by Wednesday while assailing the Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) for it termed as failure to suspend the accused despite a resolution being unanimously passed by them. The Market Inspector is alleged to have assaulted Deputy Chairperson at a meeting of the Canacoan Municipal Council recently.

The decision to turn the heat on the DMA was taken at an unofficial meeting of the nine councillors including Chairperson Chaya Komarpant on Sunday.

“The council feels the Director of Municipal Administration is dilly-dallying in issuance of suspension order, and have not suspended Yesso Dessai by acting upon CMC’s unanimous resolution, till date, even though the matter is extremely serious in nature, whereby a municipal staff has attacked/assaulted an elected representative that too in the Council Meeting full view, whereby, a councilor suffers injuries necessitating his in-house treatment in a hospital, and causing injuries to Chief Officer and two women councilors including Council Chairperson, showing disrespect to even women’, informed a close source present at the council’s unofficial meeting held at Chaudi on Sunday.

‘The council has decided that if the suspension of the Market Inspector, doesn’t come latest by Wednesday, the council will stage a dharna beginningThursday. If still, no justice is meted by the DMA (the concerned authority in the matter), then the council will resort to agitation, after meeting the chief minister, and even go to the extreme extent of resigning en-mass from the council. This is unanimously decided in the council meeting held on Sunday,” informed CMC Chairperson Chaya Komarpant, when contacted.

Except for Kindlem councilor and ex-chairperson Prathana Naik Gaunkar,

all the nine other councilors in the 10-members Canacona Muncipal Council were

present in the informal

council meeting held on Sunday.

Market inspector’s bail application

to come up for hearing on June 26

CANACONA: The bail application of CMC Market Inspector Yesso Dessai, who has been granted  interim bail, will come up for hearing on June 26 (Tuesday).

Soon after a case was registered by Canacoan police against him following a complaint filed by CMC Chairperson Chaya Komarpant, Dessai moved the Sessions Court in Margao for anticipatory bail.

The bail application came up for hearing on Saturday and the Sessions Court in Margao after granting him interim bail fixed June 26 for the next hearing. Sources said that the market inspector cannot be arrested till the bail application is heard or disposed on June 26.

‘Yesso Dessai’s promotion was never regularised’

CANACONA: CMC Dy Chairperson Shamsunder Dessai, who was discharged from Hospicio Hospital, Margao on Friday, said that Yesso Dessai was appointed as a LDC in 1992. In 1993, however, was given an adhoc promotion as Municipal Inspector (now Market Inspector) for a period of one year. This adhoc promotion was never regularized.

Adding further, the deputy chairperson of the Councilclaimed, “in 2005, the DPC of Yesso Dessai was kept pending, and even in latest post position, Yesso Dessai has not even got the benefits of 7th Pay Commission as eligible to a Market Inspector. He is still a LDC.”
