Sao Joao at ‘Margao Tinto’

Celebrated twice a year by Clube Harmonia de Margao, their free event ‘Margao Tinto’ is gaining much popularity since the time it started. People from South Goa look forward to this get-together that offers entertainment along with a shopping experience under one roof at this premier club’s centrally located building in the heart of Margao.   

This time’s ‘Tinto’ will be held on June 24, on the occasion of Sao Joao and for the first time three young budding artists from Goa, Nadia da Silva (vocal), Alston Barretto (guitar) and Keegan Barreto (keyboard) will offer their debut performance here. 

Known as the hub of social, cultural, literary and artistic activities, Clube Harmonia’s grand hall offers the much needed space to offer the feel a real ‘tinto’, the good old open marketplace in Goan villages. 

“We are trying to revive our traditional culture and offer a slice of yesteryear’s Margao to today’s modern world,” says Ameet Dias, president, Clube Harmonia de Margao who has been successful in organising crowd gathering events in the recent past. “These efforts seem to be fruitful and our youngsters now look forward to attend these gatherings with us to enjoy the music, food, art, craft, song and dance that accompanies the ‘Tinto’”, admits Ruby Furtado, a citizen of Margao.   

The ‘Tinto’ concept has clicked well and this time many vendors have booked stalls to display their homemade art and craft, jewellery, pickles, jams, cakes, wines. Apart from the buys and sales, the bands, ‘Truly Yours’ and ‘Konrad’ will be playing live and entertaining the crowd throughout the event. 

Apart from the regular stalls, big food stalls with celebrity chefs like Rohan Coelho’s Dibs on Ribs – BBQ, Charlie’s BBQ & Steaks, Adincos’ cocktails, Antojitos’ burgers, hot dogs, tacos and nachos will foodies busy. Raynold DSouza from Delicacies de Goa has global fusion food and Fatima Mascarenhas has Goan delicacies like homemade traditional pickles, masalas and sweets.   

The table stalls have artists, bakers, jewellery makers displaying their art and craft. Carrieanna Furtado will paint faces and make tattoos at her face painting and tattoos stall while Augusta’s Garden will sell plants and gifting pots. Sherwin Ferrao has unique umbrellas while Sarita Mascarenhas is offering homemade pickles and sweets. Gloria Alphonsus has handmade jewellery and organic soaps. Martha’s table will be full of homemade jams, squash and, snacks. Suprajit Raikar has honey made in Goa. Aaliya de Noronha’s Bakekraft offers bakery products and Malaika Gracias has handmade paper products. Sharon Goveia E Da Costa will cook some sweets and savouries.   

Nizia S Fernandes’ ‘Niz Creation’ with headpieces, baskets, bouquets and flowers will dominate the space. Pooja Alornekar’s ‘Enchanted Accessories’ has handmade jewellery. ‘Tintho’ will be full of cashew nuts, spices, coconut oil and feni. Anupma Prabhudesai has greeting cards, painting and jewellery. Supriya J P Mendonca will conduct an art and craft workshop for kids.   

Other attractions to looks forward to are Aarti Gedam’s handmade books, Clarrisa Pinto’s homemade cakes and treats, Lizia Pinto’s desserts, Vanessa Almeida E Gonsalves’s personalised embroidery, Grace Gomes’ pickles and homemade wines, Cynthia D’silva’s pastries and desserts and Lavita de Souza’s sauage bread, cutlet pao and noodles.
