Despite two flagships IT projects of the previous govt -- Tuem Electronic Manufacturing Cluster and the Chimbel IT Park failing to take wings -- IT Minister Rohan Khaunte is seeking to set up a Hybrid IT Cluster at Porvorim on an area of 12,000 square metres of land falling in the Penha da França village panchayat.

A tender for the appointment of a consultant-cum Master Planner for providing complete design services in Architectural and Engineering has been recently floated by the government.

According to documents perused by The Goan, the proposed Hybrid IT cluster will have a modern iconic structure and will have facilities like office space with ready to use facilities, conference rooms, a digital library, multi-use commercial space, pedestrianized park, recreational park and other associated support facilities.

This land is not the same land that was attempted to be built into an IT park by then IT Minister Dayanand Narvekar without much success.

The winning bidder will have to prepare conceptual plans as per the suitability of the Employer and against the approved concept plan prepare detailed architectural / engineering drawings and detailed estimates and assist the Employer during the construction of the buildings and amenities for the Hybrid IT Cluster Project at Porvorim in Bardez Taluka in coordination / accordance with the concerned Government department / department plans.

The IT Dept wants a state-of-the-art building design -- ‘iconic Indo-Portuguese’ -- with outer texture showcasing rich heritage of Goa besides conforming to energy standards, space for street vendors, skill development, etc.

All attempts at setting up IT parks in Goa are yet to see any success with Dona Paula and Socorro having bit the dust, while the Tuem and Chimbel remain far from being ready.
