Pax of Nagoa edged past CDJ Ribandar 3-2 to cruise into the quarter-finals of All Goa 47th Custodio Memorial inter village football tournament organised by Raia Sporting Club at Panchayat ground, Raia on Monday.

Pax of Nagoa were on the attack early as striker Savio Fernandes picked up the ball from Noel D’Silva and ran past a host of defenders but could not beat the Ribandar goalkeeper, in the 2nd minute. At the other end, CDJ Ribandar attacked through striker Newton Azavedo, whose snap shot was blocked by goalkeeper Aston Braganza. Pax of Nagoa scored the first goal of the match in the 22nd minute when Clive Coelho punted the ball in. Three minutes later, Beneston Baretto doubled the lead with a stiff grounder. Savio Fernandes then added to the Nagoa advantage when he beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish in the 28th minute, 3-0.

CDJ Ribandar bounced back with a goal from Salu Santos in the 48th minute. Boosted by the goal, Ribandar put more pressure on the rival goal and Sachin Gawas gave the side more hope as he scored their second in the 56th minute. However, Pax of Nagoa backline weathered the storm and protected their one-goal advantage to book a place in the quarter-finals, where they will take on Navelim SC on July 14.
