MARGAO: The Goa police have officially written to the government to constitute a special Fast Track court to try the Betalbatim gang-rape, even as district Police Chief, SP Arvind Gawas said the police team is now on the job to piece all evidence gathered by the investigating agency in the case.
The Superintendent of Police, South has further said that the Goa police will oppose any move by the Indore police to seek custody of dreaded accused Ishwar Mackwana even after the completion of investigations in the case.
He said the police will try to chargesheet the case within a month’s time so that trial in the case starts immediately.
Briefing media, the district police chief said they have sent a communication to the government with a plea to set up a court to fast track the case. “Setting up of the fast track case will ensure expeditious trial in the case. Investigations in the case is complete and the police are on the job to piece together all evidence collected by the team during the investigations”, SP Gawas said.
Replying to a question, he pointed out that the Goa police will object to any move by the Indore police to take custody of accused Ishwar Macwanna in the host of criminal cases, including rapes, murders and robberies. “There is no question of the Goa police remaining a silent spectator if the Indore moves the court to take custody of the accused even if investigations in the case comes to an end and the accused is lodged in jail. We will oppose any application moved by the Indore police in the local court’, he said.
The stand adopted by the district police chief assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the statement made by the Bagawada police, Indore to transfer accused Ishwar Macwanna to Indore after the Goa police completes investigations in the gang rape and is lodged in jail.
