MARGAO: The Goa police have  officially written to the government to constitute a special Fast Track  court to try the Betalbatim gang-rape, even as district Police Chief,  SP Arvind Gawas said the police team is now on the job to piece all  evidence gathered by the investigating agency in the case.

The Superintendent of Police, South has further said that  the Goa police will oppose any move by the Indore police to seek custody  of dreaded accused Ishwar Mackwana even after the completion of  investigations in the case.

He said the police will try to chargesheet the case within a month’s time so that trial in the case starts immediately.

Briefing media, the district police chief said they  have sent a communication to the government with a plea to set  up a court to fast track the case. “Setting up of the fast track case  will ensure expeditious trial in the case. Investigations in the case  is complete and the police are on the job to piece together all  evidence collected by the team during the investigations”, SP Gawas  said.

Replying to a question, he pointed out that the Goa police  will object to any move by the Indore police to take custody of  accused Ishwar Macwanna in the host of criminal cases, including rapes,  murders and robberies. “There is no question of the Goa police  remaining a silent spectator if the Indore moves the court to take  custody of the accused even if investigations in the case comes to an  end and the accused is lodged in jail. We will oppose any application  moved by the Indore police in the local court’, he said.

The stand adopted by the district police chief assumes  significance and comes against the backdrop of the statement made by  the Bagawada police, Indore to transfer accused Ishwar Macwanna to  Indore after the Goa police completes investigations in the gang rape  and is lodged in jail.
