The North Goa District Congress on Saturday observed ‘Betrayal Day’ in Mapusa to protest the completion of four years of BJP rule at the centre and one year and 100 days of BJP rule in the State.
The Congress party workers staged the protest at Gandhi Chowk under the leadership of MLA Nilkant Halarnkar, Congress District President Vijay Bhike, spokesman Amarnath Panjikar and Tulio D’Souza.
“The Modi government betrayed people’s trust by giving false promises before coming to power. People were promised that black money would be brought back to India and Rs 15 lakh would be deposited into the account of every citizen,” said
Halarnkar.
“Instead, they have grabbed money from the common man through taxes,” Halarnkar alleged.
“Modi had announced Acche Din, but people have now been provoked to observe ‘betrayal day’. The lure of creating one crore jobs is nowhere in sight,” the MLA said, adding that there has been a slow down in the administration, with many industries having been closed.
Congress District President Vijay Bhike added that people have now been harassed by inflation, while petrol is going beyond the reach of common people.
Party spokesman Amarnath Panjikar accused the BJP government of deceiving the youth and the farmers.
