YUVA, a Panaji-based voluntary youth organisation, organised its 1st All Goa 6-a-side Corporate Football Championship on May 20 at Athletic Stadium, Bambolim. 16 corporates from the State participated in the tournament which included Godrej, Putzmeister, IFB, Dempos, Optel, 3D Systems, Alcon Auto Group, Goa Marriott, Novotel Candolim, Manipal Hospitals, Caculo Group, Accelya Kale, Persistent and HDFC.

Dempos won the tournament, defeating IFB B team. In the final, both the sides began on a positive note with the teams pressing hard to find the opener. Dempos broke the deadlock in the first half while IFB B team equalised in the last minute of the match. With the match drawn 1-1, the winner was decided on penalties. In the penalty shootout, Dempos won by a score 

of 2-0. 

For the presentation ceremony, Aakash Khanute, Director of Alcon Group, was the chief guest alongside Dr Rufino Monteiro, President of YUVA and Chairman of GFDC; advisors of YUVA, Amey Panvelcar and Shantaram Naik.

Raghuvir Mahale, founder of YUVA, congratulated the winners and runners-up, welcomed the gathering, and briefed them about the activities of the organisation. He spoke about how the tournament has been upgraded over the last six years. 

Dr Monteiro, whilst congratulating the finalists for their splendid performance, urged the corporates to support YUVA and its activities. Dr Monteiro handed over the flag of honour to Aakash Khaunte as the new president of YUVA. Aakash Khaunte presented a memento to honour Dr Monteiro’s leadership in leading the organisation for the last 5 years.

Khanute, while complimenting YUVA for organising the tournament, said he was pleased to see the passion for the game and the good quality of football dished out. He congratulated the winners and appreciated their experience in the game, while also congratulating the runners-up and appreciated their young talent to compete in this tournament. 

He congratulated YUVA for their social activities and as a president “promised to have a bigger and better tournament next year”. He also urged corporates to support YUVA through their CSR initiatives. The programme was hosted by Suyog Chougule and Raghuvir Mahale proposed a vote of thanks.
