MGP, BJP set to take over reins of PMC

The MGP and the BJP on Sunday agreed to an alliance even as MGP councilor Pradip Naik (ward 8) and BJP councilor Vishwanath Dalvi (ward 7) were elected unopposed as Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of Ponda Municipal Council respectively. However, the official announcement will be made on Monday.

Elections to the civic body were held on April 29 and counting had taken place on May 7. MGP’s Rising Ponda had bagged seven seats, followed by BJP’s Ponda Nagarik Samiti (5) and Congress-backed panel Ponda Citizen Progressive Front (3). 

No sooner the results were out MGP leader and PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar had said that they will have an alliance with BJP to form the council. But till Saturday, there was no confirmation from BJP.
