Vasco police on Tuesday night arrested a 26-year-old man residing at Driver Hill in Vasco on charges of misappropriating Rs 28 lakh from an ATM refilling firm.
According to reports, Shivanand Mestoli, a native of Gadhinglaj-Maharashtra, was employed with a firm engaged in cash management services to replenish ATMs of a national bank in and around Vasco and Nuvem.
The manager of the firm had lodged a police complaint on May 4 stating that Mestoli, who was in charge of replenishing cash in ATMs of the bank, had misappropriated cash of Rs 28,02,500 for personal use and that he was on the run. Vasco police managed to trace the accused through signals of his cellphone and arrested him from Vaddem late Tuesday evening.
Sources said Mestoli had reportedly spent the misappropriated amount on gambling in casinos.
The accused has been arrested under Section 408 of Indian Penal Code and Vasco police is investigating the case to recover the misappropriated money.
