FC Bardez came from behind to beat six-man SCC Cavelossim 2-1 in the second match of the Goa Sevens Premier League, organised by Goa Sevens and Ambelim Sports Club in association with Goa Football Association (GFA), at Ambelim Sports Complex, on Sunday. Caitano Veigas and Clinton Niasso scored for the North Goa team while SCC Cavelossim scored through Moses D’Sa.

The defending champions SCC Cavelossim fielded a formidable seven with Bersal Viegas, Alvito Miranda and Moses D’Sa in the playing seven while their opponents FC Bardez, coached by Climax Lawrence, started with Jessel Carneiro, Clinton Niasso, Caitano Viegas and Nevelle Albuquerque.

Cavelossim attacked from the word go and didn’t take long to take the lead early in the game when Bersal Viegas cracked the Bardez defence with a defence-splitting pass and found Moses D’Sa upfront, who kept his composure in front of the rival goal as he drilled a low shot past a helpless keeper Razak Devsor.

SCC Cavelossim were a far superior side in the opening minutes of the game. Quick passing and long shots, the team displayed their skills and possession play to nullify the rival attacks. FC Bardez took time to get into the game and had a rare opportunity when Jessel Carneiro ran down the right flank before laying an inch-perfect cross to Clinton Niasso, who was lurking in the box, but Clinton’s shot narrowly missed the mark, in what was one of the best and easiest chances of

the match.

Cavelossim almost doubled the lead out of nowhere when Bersal Viegas took a shot from a distance which brushed the rival keeper’s hands and hit the crossbar. At the other end, unsuccessful in getting past the strong and organised Cavelossim defence, FC Bardez changed the formula and tried to get on to the scoresheet with long shots. SCC Cavelossim walked into the dressing room with a goal advantage.

Crossing over, Bardez had the first crack at the rival goal with Inacio Colaco testing the keeper from distance, but the custodian easily punched the ball towards safety. Cavelossim’s Bersal was a nightmare for the opponents as he time and again kept the rival keeper on his toes with long range efforts. He almost doubled the lead with yet agains another long range shot only to be saved by the keeper Swizel Pereira.

However, FC Bardez finally scored the leveller in the 40th minute through Clinton Niasso, who scored from the spot kick. FC Bardez’s Michael Silva ran down the left flank and made way past couple of Cavelossim defender before Jesmon Soares brought him down in the box. Clinton stepped over and coolly converted from the penalty spot.

SCC Cavelossim’s Alvito Miranda received marching orders following his second booking. FC Bardez finally scored the match winner through Caitano Viegas in the 57th minute when he ran down the left flank and slammed the ball past the keeper. The man of the match was awarded to Jessel Carneiro of the Bardez side for his fine performance in the game.
