Davorlim win St Rock’s Cup

Sporting Club of Davorlim routed Carmona Sports Club 4-0 to win the 29th All Goa St Rock’s Super Cup, organised in memory of late Agnelo Caitan D’Costa by St Rock’s Youth Club, Calata- Majorda, in a one-sided final at St Rock’s ground, Calata-Majorda on Sunday.  

Sporting Club dominated the game but it was Carmona who came close to breaking the deadlock when Hasten Dias outpaced his markers but a rival defender was equal to the task and foiled him with a neat tackle in the fifth minute. Davorlim got an opportunity in the seventh minute when striker Abhay Shetty outwitted a couple of rival defenders but his shot was well collected by Carmona goalkeeper.

Sporting Club of Davorlim had another chance but Perryson Rebello’s blistering shot was well saved by rival goalkeeper Edvil Afonso. Davorlim’s breakthrough came in the 30th minute when Perryson Rebello beat the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish. Mark Borges scored two minutes before half time and Abhay Shetty added his name on the scoreresheet at the stroke of half time.   

Crossing over, Carmona were getting frustrated as Davorlim refused to take their foot off the gas. Mark Borges struck a second time to register his brace. Down 0-4, Carmona pressed hard but Alex Rodrigues’ shot sailed over the crossbar.

Davorlim were richer by Rs 40,000 while Carmona bagged a prize of Rs 30,000. Nuvem MLA Wilfred D ‘Sa was the chief guest and  gave away the prizes in the presence of Alexandrina D’Costa, wife of  late Agnelo Caitan D’Costa, Agnelo Pereira, Sarpanch of VP Majorda,  other dignatries and club officials.
