Verekers move ahead at MSC Cup TT on opening day

The third All-India invitational table tennis championship organised by Miramar Sports Club got off to a flying start at Indoor stadium, Campal with Verekers defeating Buddy Stars with a thumping 3-0 scoreline, in the Under-15 team championship event. 

In the league matches played on the inaugural day of the championship, BPS A also had it easy against Buddy Stars, winning 3-0. The third match of the day was an exciting clash between Verekers and BPS A, with both the sides having the best of Goa’s ranked players playing against each other. 

Verekers, led by Nagesh Verekar, who had reached as high as India No 4 ranking in the past, and Anshuman Agarwal, who has been selected by PSPB, were at the top of their game to lead their team to a comfortable 3-0 win against a strong BPS A team. The three Goa teams will compete with four more outstation teams in the Under-15 team championship event, which is scheduled in the next two days. On Wednesday, Goa’s top senior players will be seen in action which includes Noel Noronha and Ajit Ghantker, both former State champions.
