Action sought against illegal businesses on Vasco footpaths

VASCO

Vasco police and MMC have decided to take stringent action against illegal businesses mushrooming in Vasco by encroaching on footpaths after late evening hours.

A letter has been made by MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes to the PI Vasco police station, Nolasco Raposo, to assist MMC in keeping the footpaths clear, especially after the civic body’s office hours end.

It is learnt Raposo has received the letter from MMC and will soon begin a drive to clear the footpaths.

The Chief Officer on Tuesday informed MMC he had received a lot of complaints about illegal activities and businesses mushrooming on Vasco footpaths causing inconvenience to citizens.

“We have received several complaints of illegal businesses operating on the footpaths after 6.30 pm. Since we are closed after 6.30 pm initiating action is difficult. So I have written to the Vasco PI to keep a check on illegal business activities in the late hours and take stringent action. We cannot tolerate any illegal activity. We are very clear that we cannot allow any business on the footpaths as this causes inconvenience to pedestrians,” Fernandes said.

Vasco PI Raposo says he will deal

firmly with footpath illegalities

VASCO: Vasco PI Nolasco Raposo has confirmed he is in receipt of the MMC letter and has warned of stringent action against any illegal business activity on the footpaths of the port town.

“There are PCR jeeps patrolling Vasco daily and in fact I personally also go around with duty officers most of the times. We have been very strict in our approach towards illegality and public nuisance. We have also apprehended many people creating public nuisance. In fact recently we have arrested 217 people and in the last few months we have arrested more than 950 people for causing public nuisance. We will continue our efforts and conduct drive against people causing public nuisance and against illegal carts on Vasco’s footpaths. I want to ensure that the public is not put to any inconvenience,” Raposo said.
