It is understood that there is a ban on the movement of road-rollers on public roads and national highway. However, now and then one can see these monstrous vehicles moving on the roads at a snail’s pace. These vehicles are exempted from registration with the directorate of transport and hence have to be moved from one place to another by mounting it either on a truck or a trailer. No vehicle which is not registered with the directorate of transport is allowed to move on the public roads and the national highway. Movement of the road-roller on the roads can prove dangerous for other road-users for its slow movement and heavy weight. A vehicle moving at a speed can crash at the back of a slow moving road-roller on a blind turn. These vehicles may also not be able to climb a slope because of it’s weight and hence remain stranded on the road thereby causing hindrance to the smooth movement of traffic. There needs to be a check on the illegal plying of road-rollers on the roads by the authorities concerned and those found moving on the public roads and national highway booked under the relevant rules as the lives of other road-users cannot be put at risk.
