All India Congress Committee secretary and Goa desk in-charge Dr A Chellakumar on Saturday concluded the round of deliberations with all senior and prominent leaders of the party to seek their opinion on the candidates shortlisted for the post of State Congress president.

Speaking to the media prior to his departure, Chellakumar said, “Some of the senior leaders have also said that it is the right time to go for a new generation of leadership. Even our Congress president mentioned that we will give a new generation of leaders without eliminating or sidelining the seniors. The seniors will be repositioned in the party.”

He added that the local political scenario will be taken into consideration while commenting that the present government has become very unpopular among the public.

The AICC secretary stated that he has discussed and consulted with all senior leaders, from former CM Pratapsing Rane to several active block Congress presidents.

“Some spoke over the phone. Ultimately after all the consultations, I have to place it before the Congress national president for selection. We are looking for a person who is aggressive in stance, who raises his voice for the people of the state, who is accessible to the cadres and who has an experience in organization. There is a question of loyalty as well,” Chellakumar said adding that there are a few MLAs also in the list of hopefuls.

Meanwhile, the senior Congressman criticized the ruling coalition for their inability and utter failure to resolve even a single of the crticial issues facing the state. “They haven’t been able to generate jobs in the one year of being in power. Of those who were employed in private sector, more than a lakh of people have lost their jobs. This section needs to be rehabilitated by the government. But instead, the parties in power are looking to secure their own interests,” he said.

Chellakumar, however, said Congress is not in a hurry to form govt. “They should seek apology of Goans and resign and go”, he added.
