With apprehensions raised in many quarters that the price of settlement land may go up with the government insisting on NOCs from the TCP for sale of plots, Town and Country Planning Minister, Vijai Sardesai on Thursday said the government is ready to release land notified in RP 2021 as settlement for development on condition that these areas do not fall in the eco-sensitive, khazans, hill slopes, mangroves etc.

He also said that the government will work out a mechanism to rule out corrupt practices with the Amendment requiring parties to seek NOC from the Chief Town Planner before registration of plots.

“I am not putting any new areas in the settlement zone. But, whatever is notified as settlement area in RP 2021 will be released for development on condition the land is not in no development zones or eco-sensitive zones”, the TCP Minister said, while allaying apprehensions in certain quarters that the enforcement of the amendment making it mandatory to obtain NOC from Chief Town Planner will result in shortage of settlement land for development.

He said the proposal to release land notified in the 2021 RP for settlement has already got the clearance from the Chief Minister and the same will be brought into force in the next few days.
