MARGAO

Curtorim Gymkhana came up with a commanding performance to outclass relegation-threatened Holy Cross Sports Club, Arambol,  4-0 in the Geno GFA First Division League at Artificial Turf, Fatorda on Wednesday. Curtorim Gymkhana lead 1-0 at the breather.

Curtorim Gymkhana dominated possession and pressed consistently although they could not find the back of the net for all their efforts in the initial period of the game. Curtorim Gymkhana’s breakthrough came in the 33rd minute when midfielder Reston Simoes sent the ball into the far corner of the net off a Jaison Martins pass. Spurred by the success, Curtorim Gymkhana upped the ante and swarmed all over the rival territory, but striker Milagres Fernandes proved the worst offender as he muffed up three sitters.

At the other hand, Holy Cross Sports Club were subdued and were struggling to contain the marauding rival  forwards. They hardly tested the rival goalkeeper and their movements were restricted to their own half.

Curtorim Gymkhana began the second half on a more enterprising note but Reston Simoes’ attempt was well-saved by Holy  Cross Sports Club goalkeeper Siddharth Simepuruskar with great difficulty. Later, Milagres Fernandes missed an one-to-one with Holy Cross Sports Club goalkeeper at his mercy as he hit straight into the hands of the goalie.

Curtorim Gymkhana doubled the lead in the 58th minute when he punished the rival goalkeeper with neat finish off Agio Antao’s cross. Curtorim Gymkhana had a chance to increase their tally but Roque Borges’ feeble push went straight into the hands of rival goalkeeper. Down 2-0, Holy Cross Sports Club came back strongly and nearly reduced the margin when Abraham Fernandes’ goal-bound shot was thwarted on goalline by midfielder Cliffton Barbosa. Cliff Baretto then settled the issue in the 73rd minute.
