Cuncolim Union rally to hold Sesa FA in First Division

Cuncolim Union rallied from behind to hold Sesa Football Academy to a 1-1 draw in the Geno GFA First Division League at SAG Artificial Turf, Fatorda on Tuesday. There was no score at half time.  

Sesa Football Academy went all guns blazing in their quest for all three points and enjoyed better share of exchanges, especially in the opening session. At the other end, Imamsab Guledugudda and Necil Pinto were trying hard to choke the Sesa Football Academy defence but the rivals stood tall between the attackers and the target.

Cuncolim Union sounded an early warning to Sesa reargaurd when midfielder John Khati could not control the ball in front of the rival goal and the chance went begging. Sesa Football Academy nearly broke the deadlock in the 38th minute but striker Kunal Salgaocar muffed a sitter with only rival goalkeeper Ronal Gaunkar to beat as he shot wide much dismay of Sesa Football Academy bench. 

Ryan Fernandes could have broken the deadlcok but his blistering shot was blocked by Cuncolim Union goallkeeper in the 50th minute. Beston Colaco conceded a spot kick in the 59th minute when he handled the ball off Kunal Salgaocar’s goal-bound shot inside the penalty box. Ryan Fernandes had little problem in beating Oswin Rodrigues to send Sesa ahead.

In the 86th minute, Cuncolim Union cancelled the lead in the 67th minute when Necil Pinto found midfilder John Khati inside the top of the rival penalty box, who without wasting time, punished the rival goalkeeeper with a clincial finish. 

Sesa Football Academy were unlucky when Rovan Pereira’s strong header hit the post from a flag kick taken by Ryan Fernandes in the injury time. With this draw, Sesa Football Academy collected 23 points from 10 matches while Cuncolim Union stay with 17 points from 

9 matches.
