Almost 3,000 kilos of beef destroyed following seizures in last 3 months

Chief Minister and Home Minister Manohar Parrikar disclosed that a total of around 3,000 kg beef was destroyed since last Christmas in three different raids conducted by Goa Police.  
In a written reply to a question tabled by Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa, Parrikar listed the details of these raids conducted as per the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act 1960, Goa Daman & Diu Prevention of Cow Slaughtering Act 1978 and Goa Animal Prevention Act, 1995.  
The first raid was conducted on December 25, 2017 at Panaji in which the accused Subhani Desai from Badegeri Galli, Belgaum was found illegally transporting beef weighing 1,300 kgs approximately through a Bolero jeep from Belgaum to Panaji without any documents. The confiscated beef was checked by Assistant Director, Veterinary Hospital, Tonca, Caranzalem and was destroyed three days later at Goa Meat Complex, Usgao as per the direction of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Panaji.  
The second raid was conducted on December 31, 2017 at 9.30 am upon a complait of Anjali Anand, Honorary Animal Welfare Office, Animal Welfare Board of India at Pirni, Verna. Two accused namely Tanvir Bepari and Babulal Bepari of Nagawado, Betalbatim, were booked for illegally slaughtering cows and selling beef weighing 150 kgs in an open market without obtaining prior permission from the competent authority. Both the accused were arrested. Veterinary officer posted at Majorda checked the seized meat.  
The most recent raid was conducted on January 5, 2018, at Valpoi, at 6 am at BCP Keri wherein accused Subhani Desai of Badegeri Galli, Belgaum was found illegally carrying approximately 1,530 kgs of beef worth Rs three lakhs in unhygienic conditions without valid documents. The accused was arrested and released on bail on the same day. The confiscated beef was checked by Veterinary Officer, Veterinary Hospital, Honda and was destroyed the next day at Samant Farm, Koparde Sattari as per the order of JMFC, Valpoi.  
In another reply to Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, the Home Minister informed the qualified veterinary doctor is authorized to conduct ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections, under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and Regulations.
