The political situation in the State remained fluid even as PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar continued to hold fort within the Legislative Assembly.

There was no fresh update concerning the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s health on Tuesday with the previous update being issued on Monday from the Speaker Pramod Sawant who called on legislators not to believe rumours while South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar informed that Parrikar was responding “equally” to his treatment.

Legislators from the ruling camp remained tight-lipped over the situation regarding Chief Minister’s treatment, who is battling what is said to be an inflamed pancreas, while the Opposition has demanded that the ruling party be more forthcoming about the health of the chief minister.

The leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar said Congress party was told that the CM would come and table the Budget in the House.

Several legislators referred to the Chief Minister during the discussions in the legislative assembly with legislators like Reginaldo Lourenço and Nilesh Cabral, praying for his quick recovery.

Calangute MLA Lobo hoped that the Chief Minister, once he is back would take a final call on the issue of mining, in a bid to ensure that there is a limited impact on the people of Goa in view of the SC order on mining.

PWD Minister Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar and Chief Secretary called on the Governor of Goa later in the evening leading to speculation that there would be some political movement, however, it is learnt that the meeting was concerning the upcoming visit of the President of India who will visit the Goa University this weekend.

The BJP government is expected to take stock of the situation once the Budget session of the Assembly concludes on Thursday.

When news first trickled out that the Chief Minister was unwell it was reported to be a case of food poisoning. However, no sooner he was shifted to Mumbai, the state administration informed that the Chief Minister would be “unavailable for next two days as he has to undergo a routine health check-up in Mumbai.” That was February 15.

On February 16, the State Administration informed that the Chief Minister “is well and under observation. He is likely to be discharged in a day or two. It is a case of mild pancreatitis.”

The next day, however, it was reported that the Chief Minister was “under observation for his inflamed pancreas” with the assumption that his treatment would be longer than initially anticipated and the Budget session was curtailed to only four days.

South Goa MP and General Secretary of the BJP’s Goa Pradesh unit also sought to quell a separate set of rumours that Parrikar was being shifted to the US for further treatment.

“Manohar Parrikar is undergoing treatment at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai and is equally responding to the treatment. He is being treated by best of experts and as per information, his condition is stable. Further, the news that he is being flown to US for further treatment is totally false and baseless,” Sawaikar said on Monday.

The Business Advisory Committee of the Legislative Assembly, which met  on Monday approved a decision to curtail the business of the Assembly to  four days with the new schedule specifying that the House will be  adjourned after the presentation of the budget on Thursday.

PANAJI: Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao has appealed to the Catholic community to pray for the good health of ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is undergoing treatment at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. A press note issued by the Diocesan Centre for Social Communications Media states that Archbishop Ferrao shares “the genuine concern of the population of the State and has prayed for the fast recovery of ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.” Archbishop Ferrao has also “appealed to the Catholic community to raise fervent prayers for the good health of the head of the government in this State.”

BJP must be prompt on CM’s

health information: Cong

MAPUSA: Stating that BJP should have been more prompt in disseminating the health condition of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar said Congress party was told that the CM would come and table the Budget in the House.

“People in Goa wanted to know the condition of the chief minister and therefore the BJP could have done a better job by giving proper information on his health,” Kavlekar said.

“In one of the meetings, the BJP informed us that the CM will come to present the Budget,” he added. To a question, the leader of Opposition said that he and some of the Congress MLAs will visit the chief minister in Mumbai. “We will soon decide on when to call on the chief minister who is undergoing treatment in Mumbai,” he said.
