As a counter-reaction to statements made by opposition panchas on PDA, the Chimbel ruling panchas also stated that they have neither submitted any letter of support to the PDA nor received money from anyone to support the same.
Stating this at a press conference at Miramar in the presence of Deputy Sarpanch Manisha Chopdekar, panchas Ajay Borkar, Rosy Uttukuri, Vasanti Vernekar, and Pramila Kunkolkar, Sarpanch Chandrakant Kunkolkar stated that the panchayat has not submitted any letter of support as was alleged in a meeting held in Chimbel by some speakers.
“Let the persons who claim that we have submitted the letter come out with proof,” Kunkolkar stated, while adding that the allegation of them accepting money was also false and baseless.
“We have already put the PDA issue on the agenda of the gram sabha on Sunday and whatever decision the villagers take, we will back it,” Kunkolkar added.
When The Goan questioned whether he would resign as member of the Greater Panaji PDA committee as being demanded by the opposition panchas, Kunkolkar informed that since he has not received any intimation of his inclusion in the PDA committee, there is no question of resigning.
When asked whether the ruling panchayat would withdraw support to the Goa Forward Party, the leaders of which are being held responsible for thrusting the PDA on the people, Kunkolkar opined that the panchayat would follow due process first and then only take a decision.
“We have listed the PDA issue at the gram sabha, after which the resolution taken by the public would be sent to the government and after that, if the government doesn’t listen to our demand we will take appropriate decision,” Kunkolkar stated, but did not give a clear answer whether that decision could include resigning from the Goa Forward.
On the absence of the ruling panchas at the public meeting held in Chimbel, Kunkolkar said that since the panchayat has its own platform, which is the gram sabha, the need of attending a public meeting doesn’t arise.
