Residential coaching camp held for Goan elite athletes

A residential coaching camp for the Elite Goan Athletic probables was organised by Sports Authority of Goa in collaboration with Goa Athletic Association at Peddem Sports Complex. 

A selection trial was conducted wherein 15 best athletes in the State were shortlisted by an expert committee out of 75 athletes that reported for the trials. The athletes that attended the coaching camp are Kaisiya Fernandes (100m), Priyaksha Gaude (400m), Alister D’Souza (100m), Sahil Naik (shot put/javelin), Teddy Cardozo (5000m), Saifur Mondal (100m), Sunil Renati (long jump), Anthony Faleiro (100m), Aslam Shaikh (high jump), Anantha Krishnan (long jump), Vaibhav Naik (800m), Agnelo Peixoto (long jump), Vijay Vishwakarma (20km walk) and Hrutvej Parab (400m hurdles).  

Dr Wazir Singh Phogat, senior SAI coach from Sonipat and chief coach attached with the Indian Youth Athletic Team was invited to provide coaching expertise to the Goan athletes at the camp.

The residential camp is a part of the joint endeavour of SAG and GAA to develop athletics in the State. The camp was held to prepare the top junior and senior athletes for the upcoming athletic competition season. Besides the intense fitness and technical training, various off-field sessions were also conducted for the top athletes on sports nutrition, injury management, etc. The camp concluded on February 16.
