Mining dependents have decided to hold a mega meeting at Azad Maidan in Panaji on February 21, at 9.30 am, to draw the government’s attention to the mining issue.

This was decided at a meeting in Dharbandora on Sunday morning. The meeting was attended by Sanvordem MLA Deeepak Pawaskar, Dharbandora Taluka Truck Association President Vinayak alias Balaji Gawas, Sanvordem Sarpanch Sandeep Pawaskar, Kale Sarpanch Kishore Desai, All Goa Truck Owners Association (AGTOA) President Nilkant Gawas, Satyavan Gaonkar, All Goa Machinery Owners Association President Sandeep Parab and North Goa Truck Owners Association President Suresh Desai.

While MLA Deepak Pawaskar said that he fully trusts the State government to come up with a solution to the mining issue, Balaji Gawas expressed his doubts.

Though Deepak Pawaskar and his brother Sandeep Pawaskar tried to persuade the gathering that an agitation at this stage was unnecessary, the masses decided to go with Balaji Gawas and gather at Azad Maidan on February 21.

Gawas said the only way to draw the attention of the government is by showing their strength in Panaji. “We will get fooled again if we don’t take a step at this juncture”, Gawas said.
