Salgaocar wallop Salcete for South Goa title

Salgaocar Football Club mesmerised the crowd of the SAG Artificial Turf, Fatorda with a scintillating performance to clinch the South Goa championship after winning the GFA Under-14 play-off final on Sunday. The Greens hammered Salcete Football Club 8-0 as Jordan Borges scored a hat-rick.  

Right from the start, Salgaocar attacked and it only took them eight minutes to score the first goal when Gangaram Kharat headed home off a well executed flag kick taken by Sidney Lucas. The second goal came in the 31st minute when Jordan Borges slotted past Salcete goalkeeper Anish Yadav with a clinical finish, off a Sidney Lucas pass.Thanks to a perfect assist from Sidney Lucas, Jordan Borges found the net again in the 34th minute. Nevil Menezes added his name to the scorers list at the stroke of lemon break. Salgaocar colts completely dominated the first half of the match and went into the break with a 4-0 lead.  

In the second half, just when it seemed Salcete Club were starting to settle down, Salgaocar scored two more quick goals. In the 51st minute, Jordan Borges punted the ball to the far corner of the net to complete his hat trick after Rui Noronha scored a solo goal. Tahir Shaikh inflated the tally when he blasted home a powerful shot. Bechahm Dias drove the last nail into the rival coffin in the 

68th minute.  

Earlier Savio Madeira, technical director of All India Football Federation and former India footballer who was the chief guest, was introduced to the teams in the presence of Elvis Gomes, GFA president, Schubert Furtardo, GFA vice-president, South Goa, GFA executive members, Anthony Pango, Arnaldo Costa and Jaju Fernandes.
