MARGAO

Velsao Sports and Cultural Club’s marauding run in the Geno First Division League continues as they crushed Holy Cross Sports Club, Arambol, 5-0 at SAG Artifical Turf, Fatorda, on Tuesday. Velsao lead 1-0 at the breather.

Velsao emerged on top after an hat-trick from goal-machine by Oilex Olveira (19th, 51st & 75th) while substitute Savio Fernandes registered a brace (66th & 72nd minute).

The opening exchanges saw Velsao taking the control of the game as Holy Cross conceded a freak goal. Klusner Pereira’s lob into the penalty box saw Arambol defenders perplexed and striker Oilex Olveira headed home in the 19th minute. At the other end, Holy Cross seemed like a subdued lot as they hardly made an impact on the rival citadel.Velsao had few more scoring chances in the first half, but their forwards’ sorties failed to yield desired results.

Post-resumption, there was more misery in store for the Arambol side. Velsao had a golden chance but defender Manushan Fernandes’ snap-shot grazed the crossbar off an assist from Klusner Pereira. Velsao found the target for the second time in the 51st minute when striker Oliex Olveira beat the rival goalkeeper Siddharth Simepuruskar with a neat finish off a well-measured cross from midfielder Chadwick Furtado. Oilex Olveira could have completed his hat-trick but he failed to beat the rival goalkeeper in a one-to-one situation.

Velsao midfield was ineffective from open play despite enjoying abundant amount of possession. However, their substitute striker Savio Fernandes did manage to eke out threatening chances and increase their tally. Savio placed the ball into the far corner of the net off Joel Colaco’s assist in the 66th minute. Savio was unlucky when his feeble shot went straight into the safe hands of rival goalkeeper. In the 72nd minute, Savio showed sublime dribbling skills before outpacing his marker and slammed the ball into the far corner of the net off Agnelo Colaco. Oilex completed the rout in the 75th minute with the striker once again coming up with a goal, with an assist from Klusner Pereira.

With this win, Velsao Sports and Cultural Club took their tally to 9 points from 3 matches while Holy Cross Sports Club suffered their third loss from same number

of encounters.
