DULER

Sporting Clube de Goa Juniors registered a hard fought 2-1 win over Salgaocar Football Club Juniors in the AIFF Under-18 Youth Football League (Goa Zone) match, organised by GFA, at Duler stadium, here on Tuesday.

After the win, Sporting climbed to the top spot with 13 points from 6 matches, while Salgaocar stay on 8 points from 6 matches.

Flaming Oranje did have better of the ball possession and made some fine moves inside the rival territory, but the strikers failed to deliver the goods upfront. In the 30th minute, a scorching strike by Joyson Gauncar from outside the penalty box rebounded off the post. After some probing, finally in the 39th minute, Samuel moved dangerously from the left flank and getting past the onrushing Salgaocar keeper Utkarsh Deshmukh shot at the goal. The effort was intercepted by a Salgaocar defender only to find a lurking Aman Ulhas Govekar tap the ball into the goal, 1-0.

On resumption of play, Salgaocar came with renewed ideas and should have pulled a goal back in the 52nd minute. But a rasping 25-yard shot from Ribhav Sardesai sailed just over the crossbar. While the Green Brigade did the attacking, Flaming Oranje doubled their lead in the 75th minute when Joyson Gauncar sent a through pass to an overlapping Trijoy Savio Dias, who coolly guided the ball into the goal, 2-0.

In the last 10 minutes of the match, Salgaocar colts were all over the rival territory. A superb run and a cross by Chaitan Komarpant saw overlapping substitute Aaron Bareto a bit late to get his leg to the cross. However finally in the 87th minute, Aaron Bareto pulled a goal back as his fierce shot hit the defender before entering the goal, 2-1. In the added-on time, the Greens lost a glorious opportunity to level terms as a strike by Levy Teles Pereira hit the onrushing keeper before the ball went for a corner.
