Looking at soaking in some great local art? Goa has become quite the hub for art events in recent times with art exhibitions and workshops being held regularly across the state. Art promoter and dealer Swetlana Cardoso has been quite active in the promotion of local art and is now all set to put together a new art exhibition. The art show will feature six artists coming together for a five day exhibition of their works which will open on February 10 at the Art Gallery, Directorate of Art & Culture, Goa.

Having been a part of several group exhibitions around India and contributed his artworks to collections in India and abroad, participating artist Norman Tagore primarily works with the human figure - male and female models, and likes taking up new challenges. His favorite mediums with human figures include line drawings with antique dip pens or bamboo pens, charcoal drawings on paper and oil paintings on canvas.

Shripad Gurav on the other hand is stirred by the Goan lifestyle, the way of dressing and socialising of the Portuguese generation.

Nirupa Naik’s art is deeply influenced by her surroundings of hills, trees and ponds which are all a part of nature. The breath of clear fresh air untouched by the city fumes seen heavily in her earlier works are still seen in her present paintings. Her later artworks also depict the human figure.

Life and fantasies occupy prime space in Manjunath Naik’s work. His major area of work lies in those expressing love in different moods. He states, “When we are in love, we do all crazy stuff and this world becomes an alien place for us. We dwell in the universe of love. We see all bright colours around red , blue , green, pink, etc. For me, art has always been a strong platform to let myself go in different universes to explore my inner self and see this world with different eyes of my soul and feel the pleasure of love. In my universe, I am naked from inside and I look at this world - observing, feeling and capturing it in my archives of my moments in life.”

Karawar born Nandini Raikar believes that her ideas are the colours, her pencils and brushes are the tools of expressions, and the canvas - the image of the vision and the dreams captured in mind.  “My skills on creativity, expressions of my inner emotions, my thoughts about the well being of society, humanitarian flaws and failures, social ethics and morales of the society get sharpened, as I go on placing these observations on canvas,” she says.

As a child, Jyoti Mehta used to sit and watch the clouds change their shape, the colour of the evening sky, etc. She was inspired by Mother nature, it’s colours and beauty. She is also an avid lover of spiritual books and is especially inspired by Buddha’s story and his teachings.
