Miscreants on Monday night damaged one of the installations along the Service Road at Porvorim.
The GSIDC had constructed the Service Road at Povorim from District Institute of Education and Training to Sai Service at a cost of over Rs 3 crore and as part of the beautification, had installed nine artefacts costing Rs 70,000 each depicting the social fabric of Goa.
One such artefact of a fisherman holding a basket of fish was installed near Dona Leonora Memorial High School. On Monday night, miscreants stole the basket from the hands of the fisherman and broke its right hand.
Speaking to The Goan, GSIDC contractor Shawn Michael said some people sit on the parapet of the Service Road at night and drink liquor. “They then discard the bottles and other food waste by the side of the Service Road, where the artefacts have been installed, thereby spoiling the beauty of the area,” said Michael.
“These artefacts have been made out of glass fibre and the cost of each artefact is around Rs 70,000. I had written a letter to GSIDC 15 days ago with a request to erect a fence along the Service Road to protect the artefacts,” Michael added.
He has now decided to file a complaint with the Porvorim Police regarding the theft and damage.
