Minister of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Mauvin Godinho, on Friday disclosed that the government is in the process of finalising tender for privatisation of Goa Meat Complex.
Speaking to The Goan, Godinho said, "We are in the process of finalising terms and conditions of the tender document, which will pave the way for privatisation of Goa Meat Complex. Some parties have already expressed interest. If a private player takes up the meat complex, he will be able to do three shifts. Goa's beef needs can be met by just one shift. In the other two shifts, the private player can process beef for his own business."
Goa Meat Complex, a state-owned slaughterhouse in Usgao, has mostly remain unoperational of late on account of one reason or another. The meat traders say that the chilling room has less capacity and its stunning box is too small for large animals. Godinho said that the meat complex can be made operational, but the meat traders are not bringing animals for slaughter.
Godinho also assured that he is looking into the issues raised by meat traders saying all amenities will be provided.
