The residents of Kadamba Plateau have decided to hold a day-long ‘jal satyagraha' on December 19 to protest non-supply of water, despite making several representations to the state government regarding the same.
The residents, under the banner of Kadamba Plateau Residents' Action Committee (KAPRAC) have stated, "KAPRAC has decided to a hold a day long protest on Goa Liberation Day. The protest will begin with a water dindi at 8.45 am from Government Employees' Housing Society and then the residents will assemble at the colony premises followed by a protest till 5.30 pm."
Pointing out that the residents of the plateau have been requesting the state government for public tap water supply since 1997, the residents stated that they have made several representations to PWD and even the Chief Minister.
"But instead of receiving water, we have received empty promises which were never executed by the government.
"The surroundings of the plateau receive 42 MLD of treated tap water supply, but the requirement of 0.4 MLD water required by the plateau residents has still not been met by the government."
Stating that the last representation with regard to the non-supply of water was made to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on May 13, the Committee stated, "He promised us that the treated tap water supply will resume by October 2017. But so far there has been no work of even laying of a pipeline."
