MARGAO
Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai on Saturday announced that the stretch of road from the district court building to the Ravindra Bhavan junction will be named as "Asmitai Enclave" coinciding with the golden jubilee of the historic Opinion Poll that ensured that Goa remained a separate State.
Speaking at the release of the book ‘Piki Piki Kazule' by Pricia Barretto at the Ravindra Bhavan here on Saturday, the TCP minister further said Asmitai Enclave is an attempt to salute and recognise around 21 noted personalities who had participated in the historic Opinion Poll which is celebrating its golden jubilee on January 16, 2018.
"The stretch of road from the district court building to Ravindra Bhavan junction is named after Bishop Rebello. There won't be any change in the name of the road, but what we have decided to do is to make the stretch of road as Asmitai Enclave. Pictures of the 21 great personalities, including Jack Sequeria, who is known as the Father of the Opinion Poll, will be displayed all along the Asmitai Enclave as a tribute to these leaders and the thousands of people who had worked to maintain Goa's separate identity," he said.
Saying that the historic Opinion Poll is one of the greatest thing to happen in modern Goa, Vijai reminded the audience that only Konkani language will be able to save Goemkarponn in the State.
Referring to the compilation of the book ‘Piki Piki Kazule' by Pricia Barretto in Devnagiri script, the TCP minister said that efforts of Pricia, who is a Mull Goemkar, to compile a book on poem in Devnagiri shows that Konkani movement is going forward.
"Only Konkani language can save Goemkarponn and Goa's identity. When a girl belonging to Mull Goemkar has come out with a Konkani poem book in Devnagiri, it is a big achievement and only goes to show that Konkani movement is active and going forward in the State," he added.
