In his complaint to the Bardez Sub Divisional Magistrate, with copies to police officials, Sidhesh Shetgaonkar has sought an investigation by doctors to conduct a post mortem examination to establish exact cause of death and to action against those responsible for the two deaths.
Narrating the events, Shetgaonkar said he was married to Saanvi (25) in May and when she was pregnant, had sought consultation at Vision hospital since September.
On November 2, Shetgaonkar said his wife had gone for a routine check at Vision Hospital, where they were told that the foetus was not in the right position. Saanvi was later subjected to a medical procedure to rectify the position of the foetus.
A subsequent ultrasound test on December 5 showed normal results and they were advised to follow up after a month.
Shetgaonkar said Saanvi began to vomit and had fever in the wee hours of December 9 and she was taken to Vision hospital at about 5.20 am.
The hospital staff gave her two injections and Saanvi later developed severe stomach pain, said Shetgaonkar.
Saanvi's regular consulting doctor advised medication and when Saanvi continued with severe pain, the consultant said the foetus would have to be aborted to avoid further complications. Saanvi was shifted to the labour room and delivered a baby boy, but was told that the baby, while alive, would not survive as he was not fully grown.
Shetgaonkar said he took the body for final rites, while Saanvi was shifted to the general ward and was with family members.
Sometime later, Saanvi developed severe stomach pain and Shetgaonkar rushed back to the hospital and was told that she would be shifted to the ICU.
Shetgaonkar said the hospital staff told him that Saanvi needed infusion of blood platelets, available at GMC Bambolim. The hospital gave him a note and he left for GMC along with his relatives.
Shetgaonkar said that on reaching the GMC, he was told that the note sent by doctors was improper and after his pleas, managed to get Vision Hospital's consultant to speak to the blood bank staff.
He managed to get the platelets/blood and rushed back to Vision Hospital in the evening.
Shetgaonkar said he was informed that Saanvi was put on a ventilator and was informed by a team of doctors that her condition was very bad and not responding to medication.
Shetgaonkar then visited Saanvi and noticed she was not responding and her fingernails/face had started to turn black.
At about 8.30 pm, Shetgaonkar said he along with two relatives were informed that no further treatment was possible as Saanvi had passed away.
"Having witnessed the entire sequence of treatment, I am of a firm opinion there is foul play and negligence on part of Vision hospital authorities for misleading us with her medical condition, mishandling the medical condition of my wife by delaying and making her bear intolerable pain/trauma, thereby making me lose my child and finally resulting in death of my wife," stated Shetgaonkar in his complaint.

Vision Hospital clarifies position
MAPUSA: Vision Hospital has clarified it had done everything possible to save Saanvi Shetgaonkar.
When contacted, Dr Chandrakant Shetye, head of Vision Hospital, told The Goan that the woman was pregnant and had high fever when she was brought to hospital.
"Doctors admitted her for medical treatment and despite trying their best, they could not save her," said Dr Shetye.
"Regarding the complaint filed by family members, we will put forth our stand and clarify our position in the matter during investigations," Dr Shetye added.
One of the doctors who had attended to Saanvi added: "As her blood infection had drastically increased, she was not responsive to medical treatment. We tried our best but the blood infection was high and her platelets level was low."
"She breathed her last while we were trying our best to save her in ICU," the doctor added.
