After the kick-off was delayed by 25 minutes due to an apparent lack of communication between referees-incharge Anthony D'Costa and today's match officials, the match proved to be a close contest. Both the defences alongwith the goalkeepers, time-and-again kept the strikers at bay.
Panjim stopper-backs Yadnya Parwar and Remediana Noronha alongwith goalkeeper Candice Fernandes, managed to keep Marlat Cardozo, Wilma Vaz and Rizella Almeida in check, while at the other end it was superb defending by Albert's skipper Scindia Saundatikar and Leena Gaunso who gave very little room for highest scorer in the ongoing league, Karishma Shirvoikar to take a clean shot at the goal, in the first session.
Panjim Dolphins came close to opening their account in the 10th minute, when Alisha Tavares set up Karishma Shirvoikar inside the penalty box but Albert's Princesses goalkeeper Annette Da Costa advanced to clear the ball to safety. At the other end, a long-ranger from Shirley Fernandes went just over Panjim Dolphins' crossbar.
As the match progressed, Panjim had two more chances to take the lead but Karishma shot straight into the goalkeeper's gloves, while Linda Caiado's strike from the right was confidently collected by the goalkeeper at the near post.
On resumption of play, Albert's Princesses' Rizella Almeida's strike from inside the box was collected by goalkeeper Candice Fernandes. In the 58th minute, Panjim Dolphins scored the all-important goal. A 30-yard shot by Linda Calado was poorly anticipated by goalkeeper Annette to find Karishma nodding the ball into the goal.
The most valuable player of the match was awarded to Albert's Princesses goalkeeper Annette Da Costa by Franky Viegas, GFA member.
