According to Pernem police, the GMR Company in its complaint stated that they had laid 366 concrete poles to install fencing around the airport site and miscreants damaged 340 poles on Wednesday night.
DySP Seraphin Dias, Pernem PI Sandesh Chodankar along with the company officials rushed to the site to take stock of the situation.
The company officials have suspected some people and organizations who are opposing the airport.
Speaking to The Goan, GMR Company officer Milind Paidarkar accused the local people of damaging the poles. "The company had laid 366 poles, out of which 340 were damaged. I have also stated in the complaint that people who are opposing the Mopa airport are behind such acts," he alleged.
Pernem police have registered the company complaint but are yet to make any arrests.
It may be recalled that the Bengaluru-based company had signed the concession agreement with the Goa government to develop and operate the project at Mopa. The first flight from the international airport is expected to take off by mid-2020.
