The State government on Thursday decided to accommodate all para-teachers on regular posts from next academic year onwards, subject to conditions to be fulfilled/relaxed within the framework of the Right to Education (RTE) Act. The decision would however be applicable to para-teachers who join duties on or before November 25.
To discuss issues relating to para-teachers, CM Manohar Parrikar on Thursday held a meeting with officials of the Directorate of Education and a two-member delegation of the para-teachers at Porvorim.
"It has been decided to accommodate para-teachers from next academic year on regular posts, subject to certain conditions being fulfilled/relaxed within the framework of the RTE Act," said Parrikar.
"The decision would be applicable to para-teachers who have joined duties on or before November 25, 2017 as per directions issued by the Education Department," he said.
Of the 132 para-teachers in the system, 45 have already joined duty as of November 23.
Meanwhile, unsatisfied with the assurance given by Parrikar on Thursday morning, the para-teachers decided to continue with their agitation. "Parrikar had assured us of a permanent solution in June but it has not been done till date. When we had a meeting with him today, he asked us to take the orders issued by the Education Department and join duties. However, as he has not given us a permanent solution we will continue with our agitation," said Smita Desai, president, Para Teachers Association.
