Heavy vehicles parked near oil tanks make Vascoites jittery

The wall may be several metres in height and reinforced with a barbed wire at the top, but it is of little protection to stop people from scaling the barrier and entering the sensitive oil tanks in the port town.

This is because, heavy vehicles are parked near the walls of the oil tanking companies despite the area being notified as a no-parking zone, making it easy to reach to the top of the wall.
According to sources, the roads near oil tanking companies have become a parking lot for heavy vehicles arriving at the port at night.
"Heavy vehicles are parked on either sides of the road and this road gets congested even in the morning," said a source.
Many residents in Vasco have begun to question the safety of various sensitive installations in Vasco, especially the oil tanks in the heart of the city.
"If you see the height of these trucks and buses, anyone can climb atop the wall using these vehicles and enter the oil tanking compound at night," said Shailesh Govekar.
Another citizen, Nagesh Shanbhag, said despite being a notified ‘no-parking zone', many vehicles are parked on the road all night.
"This happens right in front of the police station, which is within 100 mtrs distance. These vehicles parked here are clearly visible from the Traffic Cell and they should take a note of such incidents. Why are they not being fined despite regular drives? How can the police enter and exit the police station and not notice the illegal parking of these vehicles," he asked.
