Days after Davorlim villagers opposed the proposed education hub in the village, Margao-based schools have strongly rallied behind the education hub, with the Samaj Sevak Sangh, comprising of the Mahila Nutan High School and Vidya Bharti, Comba with a population of 1,350 students seeking the immediate intervention of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to set up the education hub.
Managements of the two schools knocked the doors of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to look into the issue with due seriousness, saying the education hub is the need of the hour. The management termed the recent developments at the Davorlim gram sabha called by the Davorlim panchayat to scrap the plans for the education hub as nothing but a politically motivated move. "It looks like a whistle blower wants to tie the bell in the cat's neck. In fact, the project will create and open up lot of jobs and business opportunities for the locals," Samaj Sevak Sangh president Sudin B Naik, said in a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
The memorandum stated that the proposed educational hub at Davorlim was decided long ago after complying with the procedures and lamented that though the area in question is already in possession of the Education department, the hub has not become a reality due to selfish politicians. "With your able guidance and vision to take the State's education policy forward in this competitive world and also help to take forward State government's Goa Vision 2025, the dream project can come to reality with proper directions to the competent authority. This will also ease the load of traffic which has become chronic and seems to have gone out of hands of all the concerned authorities," the memorandum stated.
"The city schools have no library cum reading rooms, study rooms, mini auditorium, play ground to hold their assembly or sports activities. Besides, there are no proper infrastructure in the school for the students," the delegation states.
"Also we can have a health centre, police outpost, bank facility, educational zonal office, auditorium etc at the proposed hub. Students will have quality class rooms with ample space, light and ventilation for stress-free education, with presently most of the school class rooms wherein students studying are congested and choked. School buildings will have modern library cum ready room, laboratory, study rooms, mini auditorium, etc. Besides, students will have spacious playground facilities," Sudin said.
Incidentally, the delegation of Margao Samaj Sevak Sangh called on the Chief Minister
to hand over the memorandum two days after Parrikar during his visit to the city slammed those opposing the education hub.
