Govt unveils one-time benefit scheme for freedom fighters

Applicants to be settled after written undertaking n Freedom fighters once settled will not be eligible for pension

The government gave an emotional touch to the long-pending freedom fighters' issue deciding to settle around 400 pending applications under the Freedom Fighters Welfare Scheme with a ‘One-Time Benefit Scheme'.
However, the government will settle the applicants after a written undertaking that once the ‘One-Time Benefit Scheme' is availed, the applicant will not be eligible for any other benefits under the Freedom Fighters Welfare Scheme. The applicants once they are settled will also not be eligible for any pension. As per the scheme, those who were behind bars for 15 days during Goa's freedom struggle will get benefit upto Rs 1 lakh, while those who took part in Goa's freedom struggle will be given benefit upto Rs 50,000 and those who assisted the freedom fighters will get Rs 25,000.
The government will no longer sanction applications for freedom fighters after they get financial assistance through the ‘One-Time Benefit Scheme'.
