Exploring the process of art thinking is as important as the process of art making itself and beginning October 25, creative practitioners, artists, writers, musicians, dancers and educators will be given an opportunity to explore exactly that in a four-week residency that begins at picturesque Corjuem in Aldona.
The residency will see TATVA, an international Anglo-Indian organisation that focusses on emotional awareness and wellness, will be teaming up with PEPPINA art to offer the programme. The residency will help participants to connect with creative like-minded locals as they dwell into the arts and culture and raise their social and emotional awareness to increase their well-being, creative consciousness and artistic practice.
The unique programme will include four personalised artist mentoring sittings and five group support sessions per week, the organisers state, adding that this will create a greater social and personal awareness. The sessions will be held by two mental health practitioners Kripi Malviya and David Stanton ( the founders and co-‐creators of the TATVA Center ) and a specialist curatorial mentor Katharina Domscheit-D'Souza, the founder of PEPPINA art.
Kripi, a young gifted Indian female psychologist, existentially inclined therapist, international mental health trainer and published poet, facilities the connection and relationship between creativity and emotional wellbeing with respect, openness and vulnerability.
David Stanton, a British international senior psychotherapist, trainer and consultant with over three decade experience in the UK, Europe, Africa and Asia, is dedicated to furthering emotional wellbeing through therapy and education; with a passion for working in diverse cultures.
Katharina Domscheit‐D'souza who has a BA in Art History and an MA in Arts Management and Policy, has worked as a curator, agent and artist mentor within London's art scene before she moved to Goa three years ago to establish PEPPINA art. She believes in creating emotional awareness and social change through visual art in curatorial frameworks; with the intention to contribute to a lasting discourse.
The artists of South Asian continent will be offered a special discounted fee that includes studio space along with other facilities such as participation in the personalised and group mentoring program, cultural trips, and somatic, meditative and other well-being activities, plus the opportunity to share artworks and experiences at a curated exhibition.
TATVA is an international emotional wellness and mental health awareness organisation; based in North Goa. They have a therapeutic retreat situated in a rural farming and fishing community; where they mix travel/tourism experiences with various therapeutic approaches. They are also one of only a handful of residencies in the world that specialise in offering artists psychological support; as well as providing a safe and beautiful space for them to create.
TATVA offers a combination of psychotherapy and multifaceted self-exploration with the creative arts, inclusive experimental practices, travel, nature therapy, social justice and cultural immersion.
Artists who draw inspiration from anything ranging from human rights, philosophy, activism, nature, cultures and the environment can participate in the residency. The uniqueness of this residency will appeal to artists who wish to broaden their practice in a more social and emotional way by exploring theoretical discourses; as a way to become more consciously aware of their interior and their place in the world, thus increasing their overall wellbeing and creativity.
The artists participating will be part of a small community, joining with the professionals, who will all shape the heart of a wide - ranging and imaginative program to the participants needs. The residency will explore emotional and social awareness and learn ways in which these can be translated into the art practice, through a combination of experimental workshops, guided mentoring, emotional support and expressive art processes in group and one-to‐one frameworks.
The residency offers a safe and comfortable environment for artists to allow for identity exploration, self‐expression, emotional and creative processing. By nurturing and supporting the artists in a respectful, ethical and confidential way; the team helps the artists develop an understanding of their meaning and purpose, their role as an artist and how they cope with and reflect on everyday challenges and current affairs.
In a quest to reveal the voice of intuition and promote inspiration, the team will help the artists to facilitate doing things with passion and purpose; plus accumulate a way to not only see, feel and think differently but to change the way one experiences life through art.
