First half goals from Ratesh, Bonny deliver 2-0 win at Fatorda artificial turf ground

Navelim Sporting Club downed Sirvodem Sports Club 2-0 in the Salcete Zone GFA Third Division League at SAG artificial turf ground, Fatorda on Saturday. All the goals came in the first half.
Navelim Sporting Club struck in the 26th minute when midfielder Ratesh Namaskar trapped the ball well from a flag kick and his curling shot crashed into the net giving no chance to the rival goalkeeper. At the other end, Sirvodem Sports Club almost neutralised the lead when striker Freddy Niasso sent a scorching header goalwards only to see the rival goalkeeper fist it away. The ball however fell to Clifton Vaz who unleashed a shot again but Navelim goalkeeper managed to palm it away for safety in the 30th minute. Two minutes later, Navelim Sporting Club scored the insurance goal when Valson Paxeito raced down the right flank before delivering a brilliant low cross into the box. Benson Paxeito tried to get on the end of the cross as he stretched his leg to try to steer the ball in but the rival goalkeeper threw himself at the shot. But Bonny Souza pounced on the rebound to score in the 32nd minute.
Crossing over, Navelim Sporting Club continued to enjoy the better share of exchanges and kept chipping away and Selvin Gomes found his shot blocked by the rival goalkeeper. The remaining period of the game saw both the teams having their moments in the sun. However, neither team managed to find the net though the Navelim Sporting Club citadel came under pressure.
Sirvodem had a brilliant opportunity to score when Clifton Vaz tried a curling effort from the left corner of the box. The ball was swerving into the goal but the Navelim custodian dived full length to deny him.
Floriano strike lifts DBO Fatorda
A fine strike by striker Floriano Vaz in the 70th minute gave Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda a much needed win against United Boys of Dando, Colva in the Salcete Zone GFA Third Division League at St John the Baptist Dando ground, Benaulim on Saturday.
The first half turned out to be a mediocre affair as neither team created clear goalscoring opportunities with Don Bosco Oratory dominating possession but with no penetration. With the game largely contested in the midfield, both the teams gave each other a good test of credentials.
Post resumption, Don Bosco Oratory started building up the momentum. The lone goal of the match came in the 70th minute when Floriano Vaz slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Raitura SC hold Shiroda 1-1
MARGAO: Raitura Sports Club came from behind to hold Shiroda Youth Club 1-1 in the Salcete Zone GFA Third Division League at Panchayat ground, Raia on Saturday.
Raitura Sports Club had a chance to surge ahead when Melvin Soares moved inside the rival penalty box but rival defender Altin Estiberio foiled him with a neat tackle. Raitura were unlucky when Agostinho Cruz's long ranger kissed the crossbar and went out. Shiroda's breakthrough came in the seventh minute. Ivon Antao netted the first goal of the match for Shiroda off a Royston Vaz connect. Minutes later, Raitura missed chances to score through Abby Fernandes and Wilson Rebello. Raitura equalised through Adlear Soares in the 30th minute.
At Curtorim ground, Maina SC defeated Sao Jose de Areal 3-1. For Maina, Fremy Fernandes, Clifford Gomes and Wilson Fernandes netted in the 10th, 64th and 90+3 minutes,
while Vishal Fernandes scored the consolation goal in the
48th minute.
