Leader of the Opposition Babu Kavlekar has submitted before the South Goa Sessions Court that he has reason to believe that he is being accused in the offense under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Goa Public Gambling Act to silence him and see that largest Congress party in Goa which is now having 16 seats, does not form the government under his leadership.
Knocking the doors of Sessions Court for anticipatory bail on Friday morning, Babu claimed that the present mater is only a matter of political revenge against the leader of the Opposition, drawing
attention of the court that though the case was registered in 2015, he was issued a notice to remain present in accusations under the prevention of Corruption Act and the Goa Public Gambling Act.
He told the court that he is apprehending arrest at the hands of the Crime Branch since the crime
Branch also requires him under Section 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
"The applicant has reason to believe that he is being accused in the offense in order to silence him and in order to see that largest Congress party in Goa which is now having 16 seats, does not form the government under his leadership.
The applicant had earned the label as a common man's leader during course of his political career and has been accepted as leader of the masses and that he is made to swing his allegiance to the BJP party", Babu stated in his anticipatory bail plea, adding "It is pertinent to note that the applicant is being victimized and harassed by the BJP government for oblique reasons from time to time it assumed power in Goa in 2012 as the largest party".
He submitted that the apprehended arrest is towards keeping him quite and submissive to the ruling party and to its mandate and solely with a view to restraining him from protecting his Constitutional duty as an elected members of the Congress party sitting on the opposition benches.
"The arrest is intended in order to make him quite and in order to make him toe the line of the men in power and has been wrongly famed with ulterior motives and for extraneous reasons",
he said, adding that he is deeply rooted in Goa and there's no possibility of he fleeing from justice.
Saying that he has no past criminal history and has never been accused in connection with any criminal activity expect the false accusations, Babu said the whole intention of the police is to illegally arrest him and to detain him in custody so that his political career is jeopardized or is politically kept mum and quite to make him toe the line of the men in power.
Saying that he has not kept a common gaming house or a common gambling house, Babu said the
accusation under Section 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act is false, frivolous and motivated with the object of injuring or
humiliating him by having him arrested when he has not committed any offense under the Act.
