Dando Boys Club, Benaulim edged past St Rock's Youth Club, Calata Majorda 3-2 in the Salcete Zone GFA Third Division League at St John the Baptist Dando ground, Benaulim on Friday. The teams were tied 1-1 at half time.
Dando Boys Club were the early aggressors as their forwards turned on the style and broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when Latif Shaikh slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Stung by that setback, St Rock's Youth Club regrouped quickly and instantly put pressure on the rival camp as they fired a couple of pot-shots at the rival citadel but their forwards failed to get past the rivals'
strong defence.
Midway into the match, Dando Boys Club forwards continued to put the Majorda team under pressure but a series of poor finishing prevented further addition to their tally. Regan Pereira neutralised the lead for the Majorda team to put his team
on equal terms.
Crossing over, Dando Boys Club continued in the same fashion as the Majorda team were forced to resort to desperate defending in their own half for long periods. However, St Rock's Youth Club regained the lead in the 47th minute when Ismael Pathan punted the ball to the far corner of the net. Stung by that setback, Dando Boys Club went into all-out attack and Mauvin Correia levelled the scores in the 65th minute. With the match heading for a draw, Latif Shaikh struck the match winner late in the second half to give his team
full points.
Raia Sporting blow away SCC Loutolim
Raia Sporting Club walloped Socio Cultural Club Loutolim 6-2 in the Salcete Zone GFA Third Division League at Panchayat ground, Raia on Friday.
Both the teams started the game on a cautious note. The Loutolim team though had a chance to surge ahead but Sandip Konde's goal-bound shot hit a rival defender's leg and went out. At the other end, Raia Sporting Club came close but Melvin Gauncar's rasping shot missed
the target narrowly.
Socio Cultural Club of Loutolim's striker Dickson Alves rocked the rival citadel in the seventh minute. Stung by that reversal, Raia Sporting Club pressed hard and, in the 21st minute, Danny Fernandes beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat placement to neutralise the lead.
Boosted by the equaliser, Raia Sporting Club attacked the rival goal with vigour and regained the lead through the boots of Lylod Cardozo. Raia continued in the same vein as their forwards swarmed all over the rival territory and Sheehan Fernandes put the issue beyond doubt in the
50th minute.
A minute later Dolrich Simoes added to the Loutolim team's woes. Down 1-4, Socio Cultural Club of Loutolim intensified their attacks and Sandip Konde reduced
the deficit.
Undeterred by the reducer, Raia Sporting Club tormented the rival defence with more raids. Melvin Gaunkar and Delan Gomes added to the misery of the rivals by scoring a goal each.
