Stating that as a women's organization, it is their responsibility to promote and protect women's human rights,the YWCA of Goa conducts a monthly legal cell for the students of Carmel College for Women, Nuvem Goa to arm them with knowledge on their rights as women.
As part of the legal cell activity this month, the YWCA of Goa organized the MY BODY MY RIGHTS March with the students of Carmel College. The march was attended by over 300 plus students on Thursday, 21st September 2017. The women marched from Carmel College along the highway towards Margao and then into the Nuvem village, shouting out various slogans. Some of the slogans were "Real men don't hit", " My body my rights" , "Bailo Ami , Bailo Ami, Ghara Deshachi Shaktha Ami" and " Chedu Zalle, Chedu Zalle. Dukan gullem naka. Chedu tumcho aadhar phude hain visruth naka"
In addition to the march, the students of Carmel college made handmade posters for the march which were judged, upon which a few were awarded prizes for the same.
The Goa Traffic Police ensured safety of the marchers by managing the traffic.
"We plan to continue our legal cell workshops at the college where we will cover subjects on Common civil code, Pre nuptial agreements, sexual harassment at the work place, RTI/FOR, POSCO etc," said Althea Fernandes on behalf of YWCA, Goa.
